Dear members of Congress:

We, the undersigned 100+ businesses representing all categories of the $500 billion beauty industry, hear the ‘code red for humanity’ and urge you to take action on climate change. You must act, now.

While the findings of the recent UN IPCC report come as a shock, they are no surprise. Record-breaking hurricanes, wildfires, floods and droughts plague our nation, making it clear that the impacts of climate change are already on our doorstep. You must act, now.

As business leaders, employers, community members and parents, we join you in caring deeply about the future human and economic wellbeing of our great country. But it’s not enough to care. We, together with the majority of both Democrats and Republicans*, think you should be doing more to reduce the impacts of global warming. You must act, now.

We call on you to invest at the scale of the crisis and adopt critical climate solutions including:

• Clean Electricity Payment Program that cuts emissions and modernizes our grid

• Directing 40% of the benefits from climate and clean energy funding to frontline communities

• Ending subsidies for fossil fuel corporations

• Formation of a Civilian Climate Corps that puts people to work

Our nation can no longer avoid some of the devastating impacts of climate change. But there is a narrow window to prevent the consequences from getting far worse, depending on the actions we take. Many of us have set or are setting our own climate action plans, including adopting reduction goals in line with the Paris Agreement. But we cannot do it alone. You must act, now.

Members of Congress, we ask you to invest in our collective health, our collective rights, our collective livelihoods and our collective future. You can count on our support. And you must act. Now.
